What Stephen King really thinks about the 'It' remake

10 September 2017 - 00:00 By Staff reporter

The big-screen remake of Stephen King's classic horror novel It - which was also made into a miniseries in the '90s - broke online viewership records when its trailer was viewed 197-million times in 24 hours earlier this year.
Directed by Andrés Muschietti, It will be released in local cinemas on Friday.
This is what King thinks about the movie:
When I watch a film based on one of my books, I look for the changes the filmmaker has made - to see what's there and what's not there. But I like movies, so I have a tendency to just kick back with a box of popcorn and enjoy it as much as I can.
The first generation of It readers reacted to the book very strongly because it brought back memories of their youth. There are many things in the book that a lot of kids have gone through. Those readers who grew up in the '50s reacted strongly to stuff about what life was like back then.
One of the genius things about this film version of It - and it really is a genius film - is that it updates the story so that the kids are in the 1980s and if there's a follow-up, the grownup versions of the characters will be in present day...
