How musician Nick McCreadie spends his weekends

'My perfect Sunday morning consists of three things: fruit, zzz's and lullabies,' says the session multi-instrumentalist with Rubber Duc

Ohhh, Fridays are always a goodie, coming as they do on the back of a heavy week after which everybody is ready to let their hair down and smash the weekend with full confidence. Generally, I am at a live music venue around Joburg setting up and settling into my first whiskey. And that's when the weekend officially begins.
Waking up from a show night generally isn't too bad, but there are exceptions. As such, my rule of thumb for Saturday breakfasts are either some greasy leftovers from the night before or bacon and eggs to cure that slight whiskey hangover. It's usually only slight because I tend to not overdo it because I need to think about work. I'll generally make breakfast for myself, unless I have a guest who is willing to get their hands dirty.
I love to surround myself in music. As a musician it generally tends to be the music that I will be performing that evening, so anything from jazz, salsa, house, to rock and sometimes even hip-hop.
Lunch has to be something on the move, and Woolworths is my go-to for this. Having a crazy musician schedule doesn't always allow time for planned meals.
Throughout Saturday, I'll be spending quality time with my friends and bandmates, getting ready for the evening's shenanigans. We often share a meal before the show, Greek or Indian are my absolute favourites.
My perfect Sunday morning consists of three things: fruit, zzz's and lullabies. I'll begin my mornings by catching up on some much-needed rest. The only music I'll be thinking of now is the lullabies I play for myself in my head.
If I'm feeling particularly lethargic, but awake enough to get irritated about doing nothing, I may pick up a book or two. I'm getting into the history of Cuban music - Cuba and its Music - as well as working on different techniques on the saxophone - The Art of Saxophone Playing by Larry Teal.
When I'm ready to officially start the day, a nice fruity breakfast with some champagne to set the mood is the way to do it. In the background, smooth jazz, salsa and funk sounds create my Sunday morning soundtrack. I like to top up this Sunday cocktail with some good company and a handful of UV rays.
I love to explore the city. I'm fortunate enough to perform at top-notch events - from Horwoods Farm Family market on the first Sunday of every month to Maboneng and some of the cool markets outside the city at the various golf estates around Joburg.
After some exploration, I'll enjoy a good family lunch when time allows. I love spending time with my family since they're a massive part of my life. But, sometimes if I'm not working I like to do something different. This past weekend I managed to get a cheeky picnic in with some new friends. It was great and I had a huge craving for some fruit, so I ate a punnet of grapes. I also enjoy hitting rooftop salsa in Maboneng every once in a while, just to scratch that dancing itch.
To cap off the perfect weekend, a late night set at Onyx nightclub in Sandton with my DJ duo is in order. From there, I'll make my way smoothly into Monday morning and celebrate the perfect weekend I just had...
