1. DIE PIENK PADSTAL
You can't miss the shocking pink lady nor and the loo inside - it's worth the giggles! The kitchen team produce hearty dishes and their lamb and venison pies are moreish with a flaky crust.
Do a take-out and head to Augrabies Falls for a picnic with a box of export-quality dates.
Visit: Main Road, Kakamas. Call 054-431-1457 or e-mail pienkpadstal@gmail.com
2. KGALAGADI LODGE
Owner SJ Koortzen puts his own twist on boerekos. The Kalahari lamb 'tjops', served with roast potatoes and veggies, are not to be missed.
A good idea is to stock up for your trip and buy some 'tjoppies' from the butchery next door and freshly baked bread from the bakery.
We loved the Gemsbok lager and Puff Adder weiss, which is served on tap in the restaurant.
Visit: 29 R360, Mier, Askham. Call 082-303-8768 or e-mail info@kgalagadi-lodge.co.za
3. THE GARDEN CAFE AT BEZALEL WINE ESTATE
The perfect lunch spot for families as children can run around in the fairy-tale garden while parents enjoy a wine tasting.
With recipes from four generations of Bezuidenhouts, the meals are exceptional. We loved the deluxe cheese and canape platter, served with Bezalel wine.
Visit: N14, Upington. Call 054-491-1141...
