Ceramicist, Martine Jackson’s work is a physical manifestation of her creative impulses. Her focus is on form and surface design, with her designs bold and graphic – an attempt to express sensitivity, strength and harmony.
I draw inspiration from nature, fashion, homeware, and especially interior design. The inside of a room can be the starting point for a whole new range for me.

The process of sculpting is meditative and empowering.
South African design is progressive and highly sought-after. It has its own style and flavour. It’s so exciting to see our designs being exported all over the world.
My mother inspired me to be creative from a very young age. Weekends were spent drawing, painting, welding, casting and assisting both my mom and stepmom in whatever creation they were busy with. I now work in my late mom’s studio in Green Point, where myself and two other teachers run classes and have full-time ceramicists working from the space.
My favourite ceramic piece is “Crying Pot – Series 1”. It was the first piece I worked on after my mom passed away in 2010.
My home is a place I fill with things my husband and I love: from art to furniture and, of course, my ceramics. I love my Gregor Jenkin dining table, Galia Gluckman artworks and Artemides bedside lights from Glo.
I have always admired Galia Gluckman’s work. We were introduced two years ago and hit it off immediately. I always dreamed of doing a collaboration with Galia, as I feel our works complement each other, and my dream came true with our limited edition of ceramic artworks.
In the next 10 years I see myself working on perfecting my craft – because you are only as good as your last piece! I also design products for Carrol Boyes, so I hope to have a full range under my name.
