A women-only island is set to open later this year off the coast of Finland, offering retreats that are "100% focused on female self-care". Called SuperShe Island, it will offer health-focused activities such as yoga, meditation, cooking classes and more - all in a man-free setting.
The island is the next step for a company called SuperShe, described as a "networking group like no other... connecting women from across the globe who share a thirst for living an exceptional life".
American founder Kristina Roth says she got the idea for the island when she went on her own retreats in California - and noticed how the presence of men proved something of a distraction."When there was a cute guy, women would put on lipstick," she said.
"The idea [at SuperShe island] is, hey, focus on yourself - don't try to get your hormones up."
Reservations open to the public in July, but you'll have to send a motivation to Roth if you wish to apply, to ensure that the participants are all like-minded women.
A promotional video for the island, which is about an 80-minute journey from Helsinki Airport, shows a woman hiking through woods and a series of neat, whitewashed cabins looking out onto the water.
A few years ago, something of a similar concept was offered to men - on a Southern Great Barrier Reef island off the Capricorn Coast.Called XXXX Island, it was leased between 2012 and 2015 by the eponymous Australian brewery to create a blokes' paradise. The company used it to host 3000 competition winners on breaks to a men-only hideaway it described as "less Club Med, more Club Shed".
The XXXX lease ran out in March 2016. Now renamed Pumpkin Island, it is a luxury holiday destination for couples and families of all sexes...
