Mampara of the week: Busisiwe Mkhwebane

25 June 2017 - 00:03 By Hogarth

Hers is an important office in our constitutional set-up. One that, under her predecessors, has given hope to many helpless South Africans. But her actions are increasingly bringing shame to it and leaving many to doubt both her abilities and her commitment to protecting the public from abuse by those in positions of authority. Mkhwebane's latest recommendation, that parliament amend the constitution to change the mandate of the South African Reserve Bank, shows that either she is out of her depth or she is a willing participant in a project that pushes an agenda. She has since backtracked, claiming her recommendations were a mere "suggestion". Ever heard of a legally binding suggestion? It only exists in the crazy world of this bumbling Mampara. ..
