Musician Spikiri has been in the game for years and is saddened when those he looked up to in industry or aspired to be like are disrespected and forgotten.

2018 has seen the industry lose several veterans and speaking to TshisaLIVE, Spikiri said it was painful to see so many artists only get the honour they deserved when had died.

"It is really sad that we don't make time for our legends. There is always a big deal when a new artist comes through or when someone is doing something great but not enough attention on those who have been in the game for a long time. They are forgotten. They don't get as much gigs. Not many people want to make music with them or labels don't want to release their music. It is sad. We need to pay tribute to our legends while they are still alive"

He said that his years in the industry had taught him to appreciate every moment but he was still concerned at how short some people's careers were.

"You can be the most talented person but have a short career. I have seen a lot of artists who are very talented but they don't get shows or deals. I don't know what it is. I don't know what is at play but something needs to change because it is killing us (artists)."

The star earlier this year took part in a project to honour the late Senyaka and he said that he hoped more artists could band together to do shows together, rather than wait until someone died to collaborate.

"We have the platforms and fans to do incredible things if we just come together but maybe we are competing and we think we can't. But it is better that we share and we all eat than none of us eat because we are fighting."
