From state capture enquiries and listeria outbreaks to Zuma's resignation and downgrades. 2018 was a tough one for Mzansi. Luckily we had ma Petronella to make us laugh.

The star of Mzansi Magic's drama series The Queen has never been shy to add her two cents on screen and further convinced the nation that actress Thembsie Matu is a national keypoint.

Speaking to TshisaLIVE at the DStv Mzansi Viewers' Choice Awards nominations event in August, Thembsie said she was loving every moment of her time as Petronella and the love she gets from fans.

"I'm humbled by the kind of love I get from people. I see their reactions and how much they always comment on my acting and on Petronella. They love Petronella and I am their Petronella, she belongs to them."

While it is like Christmas every time Petronella comes on screens, here are just five moments that made her leadership.

Guilty until proven innocent

Besides being one of the funniest people on the show, Petronella is also the most caring. So when she comforted Vee and suggested she give Zack a chance, she preached that a person is always "guilty until proven innocent!โ€ instead of "innocent until proven guilty"

Just look how serious she was as she butchered the phrase.

Twitter is a TV show

Petronella must think we are still in the days of Mxit because she was hella confused over what Twitter was.

During a conversation during the show, Petronella commented that the police minister was into Twitter and asked what Twitter was about, thinking it was a new TV show.

The boat explosion

Fans thought that they had lost Petronella when an episode of the show ended in the middle of the year with a massive explosion on a boat carrying most of the major characters.

Where was Petronella in the chaos that ensued? She was dragging herself to the shore with her wig half-off. Classic.

The time she wanted a bodyguard

It's not easy working for a mafia boss and so can you blame Petronella for asking her boss Gracious for bodyguards to protect her?

Sure it was a little brazen of her and TGOM turned down her request, but that didn't stop viewers from believing she had stayed away from work in protest when she didn't appear on the episode following the request.

'That b*stard Brutus doesn't want to die'

As a gossip queen Petronella remains undefeated, she showed her colours again when malume Brutus suddenly appeared at his own funeral in a wheelchair. As she often does, Patty strategically placed herself in the same room as Mmbatho and fired off questions about where Brutus was all this time .

"Mmabatho, has he told anyone where he was this whole time? Where was he when we were mourning and praying for his family? I don't buy this whole wheelchair story," Petronella said.

During her tirade, Petronella unleashed what some fans at home had been thinking: "that b**stard, Brutus, doesn't want to die, hey? He's refusing to die."
