Well wishes and prayers for Moonchild Sanelly have filled social media after the artist revealed she contracted Covid-19.

The Thunda Thighs hitmaker was admitted to hospital for the virus and warned anyone who had been in contact with her to check their status. She has been vaccinated against the virus.

Speaking to TshisaLIVE, Moonchild explained she was self-isolating after her trip from Malawai.

"I contracted Covid-19 during my album-making trip to Malawi. I'm glad it's not malaria this time. When I got back I collapsed ... I was told I collapsed. I just remember feeling like I would collapse.

"I went to the hospital and they asked me to choose between isolating at home or isolating in hospital but I opted for home."

Her visit to the Malwai in 2019 to perform at the Lake of Stars international festival resulted in her being hospitalised with debilitating symptoms of malaria.

“It was scary. I remember telling myself there is no way this is going to come out and [have people] say, 'rest in peace, Moonchild',” she told Sowetan.

“I was in and out of consciousness. I was so weak and we initially thought it was just jet lag. So I was travelling and didn't know that I had malaria in my system.

“Apparently when they called the ambulance I was so delirious that I pushed my friend. It was crazy ... I got so lucky. Every doctor kept saying your timing was so vital.”
