Patriotic Alliance leader Gayton McKenzie has questioned the “silence” on the arrest of suspects believed to be linked to the murder of Kiernan “AKA” Forbes and long-time friend Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane.

According to Netwerk24, three men were taken in for questioning in Belhar on the Cape Flats at the weekend.

KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Col Robert Netshiunda would not confirm police had the suspects in custody, saying there was “no update on the AKA matter”.

McKenzie suggested the case could be a repeat of the Senzo Meyiwa murder case.

“Why the silence regarding the arrest of the suspects in AKA's murder investigations? I smell another Senzo saga,” he said.

McKenzie previously called on police to ensure the country does not see a repeat of the Meyiwa murder probe.

“I don’t know what happened. We can just speculate and wait for the investigations,” he said.

“What I do know is that this story can get uglier. I’m asking the cops to meticulously investigate and to please avoid a Senzo repeat.”

Police minister Bheki Cele told a ministerial imbizo police were making significant progress. He said an update received from his KwaZulu-Natal team advised data from cellphones collected was being used to “patch and knit things together”.

“There are maybe things I’m not supposed to say, but ... we have collected a lot of cellphones that we’re working [on] and downloading [data] and trying to put things together.”
