While she has been making headlines for her outreach programmes in the past few weeks, Miss South Africa 2023 Natasha Joubert is closing the month of love with an engagement.
The pageant queen made the announcement with her partner of nearly nine years, Enrico Vermaak, who popped the question during a romantic sunset yacht cruise from the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town.
“Enrico and I have been together for eight-and-a-half years and have known for a long time we are life partners. The setting was perfect and so special as both our families and friends had flown down for the occasion,” Joubert said in a recent statement.
While she had suspected Vermaak might pop the big question at a wine farm, Joubert said she was pleasantly surprised to see him “switch things around” at sea.
“There were other people on board and I didn’t see any of my family or friends so I didn’t suspect a thing. However, he had organised the top deck on the yacht was kept just for us, and our families were hiding downstairs in the kitchen area. I was filming content on the front of the yacht when suddenly Enrico was standing there, ready to propose, with our friends and family in tow,” she said.
“I am on cloud nine and so happy. It’s a dream come true!”
Joubert won the Miss SA title last year after losing out to Shudufhadzo Musida in 2020. As the second-runner up, this allowed her to represent the country at Miss Universe, where she did not make it into the coveted top 21 spots.
Other than her charity work, Joubert runs Natalia Jefferys, a fashion business that specialises in fun fashion for weddings and matric dances.
Leading up to her win of the 2023 title, she wowed judges as the only contestant to remain in the top three on the Miss SA reality show Crown Chasers during its entire run.
