"I'd really like an Aygo convertible," said no visitor to a Toyota dealership ever. I mean this is, after all, the kind of budget hatchback cautious pensioners buy to see out the rest of their days at the retirement village: thrills and features are inconsequential. It only need move (slowly) from A to B.
And yet in a shock (some would even say bizarre) move Toyota South Africa Motors this morning sent out a press release announcing exactly that: an underpowered 1.0-litre Aygo fitted with a retractable canvas roof à la Fiat 500C. It's called the X-Cite (because abbreviated textese is, well, just so much more exciting) and it's yours from R161 500. What a time to be alive. – Thomas Falkiner
