The Specialised crimes court final dropped fraud charges against controversial businessman Sandi Majali today after receiving his death certificate, but the cause of his death still remains a mystery.

Specialised crimes court magistrate Ashika Ramlaal withdrew charges of fraud against Majali following representations by state advocate Shaun Abrams that the state could no longer proceed with charges against him now that he is dead.

Defence councel advocate Dumisa Ntsebeza, SC told the court that it was sad that Majali had to die without proving his own innocence. Accused number five, Wilencia Linda Dlamini who was to appear alongside Majali will appear on February 1 when her co-accused who are currently undergoing mental observation are scheduled to appear.

NPA spokesman Mthunzi Mhaga said the Sandi Majali chapter was now closed as far as prosecutions are concerned. "I don't think his death is a disappointment for the state because I believe it was an act of God. It is important to allow Majali to rest."

Majali's attorney John Ngcebetsha said his late client's death was still under investigation and the results were expected in a week's time.
