Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe has said government's anti-poverty campaign was looking for motivated and goal-orientated people to break the cycle and uplift communities, the SABC reported on Saturday.

"The main purpose... is to find change agents in each household so that we can assist them," he said in a visit to Ga-Kgatla village outside Senwabarwana in Limpopo on Saturday.

"The change agents... ensure that these families do not transmit poverty from one generation to the next generation."

According to the SABC, Motlanthe visited child-headed families and RDP houses, identifying a lack of access to water and child-assistance services.

Ga-Kgatla was identified as in need of urgent intervention by former President Thabo Mbeki in 2009.
