Two people were killed when a bakkie and truck collided on the N2 southbound near the Joyner Road offramp in Durban on Tuesday.

Rescue Care paramedics arrived on scene to find "total carnage".

"Both occupants of the bakkie, a male and female believed to be in their forties, sustained major injuries. Unfortunately on arrival of paramedics, there was nothing they could do for the patients and they were declared dead on the scene," Rescue Care operations manager Garrith Jamieson said.

The truck driver had moderate injuries and was stabilised on the scene.

"Traffic is severely affected on the N2 near the Isipingo area and I would advise all motorists to avoid this area," Jamieson said.
