A driver had a narrow escape after a branch pierced her windscreen like a spear when a tree fell on to her vehicle in Menlo Park, Pretoria, on Monday.

Paramedics said the woman sustained minor injuries.

Netcare911 spokesperson Shawn Herbst said the tree fell around 6am on Brooklyn Road.

The driver was stabilised and taken  to hospital.
