Envoy sought and got Gupta aid for family

02 July 2017 - 00:01 By SABELO SKITI

A senior diplomat begged the Guptas for favours that included flight tickets for family members and unspecified "assistance" for his brother.
Harris Majeke, South Africa's ambassador to Burkina Faso, was in the news a few weeks ago after e-mails emerged showing that, while he was an envoy in India, he tried to get a Gupta family member, Anil, appointed as Pretoria's honorary consul to New Delhi.
Further e-mails, between him and Ashu Chawla, CEO of Gupta-owned Sahara, show that in 2011 Majeke asked Chawla to buy his daughter and her children air tickets from Johannesburg to Durban.
