IT DIDN'T surprise me to read that thinner women who are looks-absorbed had unfaithful partners and less enduring relationships than larger ladies in "Fat ladies make their men sing" (May 16). Women and men who spend huge quantities of their time and conversation obsessing about what they eat and how much they work out are not exciting companions.

In the workshops I run, it is so apparent that people want a partner with a personality who can make them laugh. There's nothing personality-filled or funny about stick insects and hulking brutes who can only talk about their latest diet. - CARI CORBET-OWEN, e-mail
