WHAT a superb riposte to the doomsayers on Sunday by a motivated Proteas team in possibly the greatest ever one-day international win.

Management, the coach, Graeme Smith and the whole team have been vindicated, and an apology is surely in order from bitter has-beens like Clive Rice, Ray Jennings, Vinnige Fanie and a notoriously fickle South African sporting public who carp on the sidelines at any South African dip in fortunes.

It does not take rocket science to ascribe the reason for the lack of success by South Africa on the Aussie tour to the injuries of key personnel such as Makhaya Ntini, Jacques Kallis, Andre Nel, Herschelle Gibbs et cetera. Well done, lads.

Thankfully we still have loyal ex-player stalwarts without agendas, like Vince van der Bijl, Allan Donald and Jonty Rhodes, who lend their strong support to our team through thick and thin, while Rice facilitates the relocation of serial whinger Kevin Pietersen to England.

Good riddance, we don't need you. - Patricia Pleasance, Benoni
