This selection of websites highlights the work of conceptual and contemporary artists using text and language within their practice.

Jenny Holzer - American conceptual artist Jenny Holzer uses text in a multitude of different forms to generate meaningful discussions about topics such as violence, feminism, oppression and death. Her text-based works can be seen projected across buildings, plastered on billboards, flashing across large LED installations and lurking on the internet.

Lawrence Weiner - Lawrence Weiner is an American conceptual artist who often works with typographic texts. His text-based statements describing the creation of artworks blur the line between art as a physical gesture and as a concept.

Glenn Ligon - Glenn Ligon explores the concepts of race, identity, language and sexuality through his text-based works. The American artist attempts to "make language into a physical thing, something that has real weight and force to it."

Lilian Lijn - American artist Lilian Lijn is a sculptor who works across a range of media, but is perhaps best known for her text-based and kinetic works.

Bruce Nauman - Bruce Nauman's work is inspired by everyday speech and conversation. The contemporary American artist's constant dialogue with language is manifested through his installations, sculptures, photographs, neon, drawings, videos and performances.
