More Micra

In fashion, it is often emphasised that less is more.

That doesn't make sense to me because when you check out the new spring collections by Givenchy, Vivienne Westwood or Versace at Milan Fashion Week, there seems to be a lot going on.

The Nissan Micra, though, is a true example of the less is more mantra.

A significant example of this is the B segment vehicle' s fuel consumption.

Just as well, because for we socialites and hard-working young professionals, it's very important to get a car that at least makes you worry about one less thing.

This is the perfect car to swoosh around the city in.

It will fit in comfortably in any suburb and even in townships.

It's also a great town car, being nimble and agile . I found myself and a couple of friends looking for a good restaurant in Johannesburg and the Micra eased the experience . Our adventure involved two women and two men - so you can imagine that it was nearly impossible to find consensus on a suitable dining venue.

Even though Nissan have changed the car's look and design, it is still not an attention-grabber, and at first my guests were very sceptical about it .

After starting in the east, and heading into the CBD to check out the Newtown scene, we ended up bored and even hungrier .

We zoomed all the way to Sandton and finally settled at a beautiful Indian Restaurant in Greenside, called Karma, where we had an amazing time.

So, after jet-setting in our trendy Micra, I asked my friends what they thought about it.

None of them could help but notice ho w simple and fuel-efficient it was.

This is a true reflection . The Micra is very economical.

I had the 1.2 litre petrol engine and this vehicle can go on for days, to a point that you might even think the petrol gauge is broken.

According to Nissan, the fuel consumption on the Micra is 5.2 litres per 100km.

Though I have had the opportunity to try out the 1.5 litre Micra, the little 1.2 litre holds its own.

There's nothing boring about it's performance.

It may seem to have a little lawnmower engine, but it is feisty nevertheless.

The Micra is very minimalistic and doesn't do many tricks.

It comes with all the necessities and that should satisfy buyers looking for something in its price range.

All the ranges come with ABS, EBD, power steering and obviously the all-important airbags for both driver and passenger.

We all know this is an entry-level car, so expect some fancy stuff like Bluetooth and electric mirrors to be missing. You will, however, get electric windows, unlike with its competitor, the Renault Sandero.

The 1.2 litre engine Micra starts at R108400, with the 1.5 litre engine at R147000.

The 60000km service plan is optional though at a cost of about R5000.

So, in all honesty, with this car, less really is so much more. It gives you true value for your money.
