iFani is a Port Elizabeth-born Xhosa rapper and hip-hop artist

Where did you spend your last holiday?

I quit my job with SABMiller two years ago and I've been on holiday ever since. But before this long holiday, my salary took me to the US.

What was the best thing you did while there?

I went to the Brooklyn Bridge. As a rapper, trust me, it's an honour to have touched that bridge and crossed over into Brooklyn, home of our legends in the hip-hop game.

Your favourite city abroad and why?

Chicago is my favourite 'cause it's windy like Port Elizabeth, my home town.

What was your best holiday, ever?

My Christmas road trip in 2008 from Jozi through KZN, the Eastern Cape and the Western Cape - I stopped at the Namibian border. It was the first time I owned a car, so I turned my dreams into reality.

And your worst to date? What happened?

My Jozi-to-Durban mini-holiday. We never made it. We got into an accident and spent more than a mini-holiday in hospital.

What is the best thing you have been given on holiday . or pinched from a hotel?

A kiss and a hug. Hugs without kisses don't count.

Who would be your fantasy holiday companion and why?

Bill Gates because he has all the money in the world.

Your favourite restaurant, anywhere?

The Butcher Shop & Grill in Nelson Mandela Square, Sandton. It makes me forget about Chesa Nyama.

One place you want to see before you die?

China.

Have you had any embarrassing moments as a traveller?

All the time. The worst was when I got a runny tummy on the road.

What do you avoid on holiday?

I always avoid planning. It spoils the journey. The fun is in the mystery.

What's your best piece of travel advice?

Always carry toilet paper with you. You'll thank me later.

One travel destination you would call "never again"?

My other ex-girlfriend's home.
