Move over Virtual Reality, Roblox is the future of gaming

If you were born before 2000 you would be excused for not knowing what Roblox is.
Dubbed the world's largest social platform for play, Roblox has sneaked its way past most in the mainstream gaming arena, and yet, by sheer numbers of players alone, is bigger than Minecraft. But what is it exactly?
Roblox is an online multiplayer space that houses a bunch of games designed and created inside the platform itself, made mostly by teens in the Roblox community.
Thanks to the easy-to-use functions, anyone with a bit of coding flare can make their own games using sets of basic building blocks provided.
Those who do so can make a healthy income from online players who buy the platform's "robux" currency that they can spend on upgrades for their avatars or obtaining special abilities.
If you are more of a player than maker, Roblox acts as a constantly full buffet of games that range from more simple "slash 'em ups" like Portal Heroes to the more nuanced survival skill game Island.
A firm favourite is Jail Break, a cops and robbers type of game in which players can choose to be either and are pitted against the other in real time. It's easy to see why the game has over 75,000 players on it at any given time; it's seriously addictive.
Not all games on the platform were created equal. The designs of some are still raw and the graphics and gaming dynamics are not groundbreaking, but the complete package that Roblox represents, is.
VR should step aside. This is the future of gaming.
