What inspired the SiSi collection?
Yasmin: The white shirt is a perennial favourite for just about every woman, if not every man. We both love white shirts and wanted to create something edgy but different; something that caters to a diverse market. The detail is extremely important to differentiate our shirts from the classic fitted shirt.
SiSi shirts have garnered quite a cult following. What makes your shirts different?
Cynthia: I've spent the past few decades designing and I know how important detail is to my clients and me. For both of us it was always going to be the details that really defined our shirts.
What sets us apart is our attention to detail and that we like to have fun with the designs. We both love a good, crisp fabric, so that's the foundation.
Yasmin: We never imagined it would be so successful, but I think we certainly tapped into a market with a desire for something different yet infinitely wearable. How do you wear a classic white shirt?
Cynthia: I love a voluminous shirt with a pencil skirt and heels, or a pair of classic cigarette trousers.
Fitted, tailored shirts work with anything and are great to accessorise with scarves, beads, necklaces. Our shirt dresses look fabulous worn on their own or over trousers for a more layered ensemble. White shirts aren't seasonal - they're a blank canvas all year round.
What's next for the SiSi brand?
Yasmin: Our plan is to produce a couple of collections this year and to perhaps introduce other neutral colours. There has also been a request from our male fashionistas, so we are definitely looking at designing men's shirts as part of our next collection.
