The more organised among us probably planned their end-of-year work functions months ago. For the rest, the pressure is on to find a great venue for your annual office party. To help, we've rounded up some Joburg hot spots that are ideal for corporate functions:

1. CALEXICO

The old Stanley Beer Yard has reinvented itself with a Californian and Mexican twist. The family-style eating at Calexico makes it perfect for larger parties, so you could order a bunch of sides and appetisers like nachos, tortilla chips with artichoke and jalapeno dips, lime mielies and more. They also have more substantial mains including things like free-range BBQ pork ribs, dry-aged sirloin, and pulled chicken.

Add to this their great list of signature cocktails and in-house DJs, and you have the perfect ingredients for a festive feast.

2. THIRTEEN

With sweeping views over the Nelson Mandela Bridge and the greater Joburg skyline thanks to its thirteenth floor and rooftop location in Braamfontein, this is an edgy venue that caters specifically to corporate functions and other premium events.

Thirteen has a fully equipped kitchen and beautiful whiskey and champagne bar, as well as a variety of suppliers on hand to help with any kind of event. Added bonus: it includes both an indoor and outdoor space, so there’s flexibility in terms of weather and the ambience you’re looking for.

3. THE CARNELIAN

The Carnelian is a large, swanky venue located upstairs from The Rock at the Design Quarter. Its sweeping marble bar, plush couches and small tables means it’s great for a more casual function where you don’t want one big sit-down dinner (though there is a separate dining room for smaller parties).

They’re focussed on tapas – think sushi, smoked salmon cakes with home-made tartare, roasted pork belly and tempura beans served with sesame, ginger and soy – so it’s all about sharing and socialising in a relaxed environment. And, their award-winning mixologists are on hand to whip up some delicious festive cocktails.

4. CLICO RESTAURANT

Somewhat of a hidden gem in the middle of Rosebank, the Clico Boutique Hotel has recently undergone a refurbishment, and now includes an outside terrace area and bar in a tranquil garden setting that’s perfect for an elegant afternoon or evening event.

The restaurant is headed by chef Marnus Scholly, who excels in classic European-style dishes updated with innovative twists by experimenting with seasonal ingredients and trends like fermentation, dairy alternatives and more.
