What prompted you to create Voke Rugs?
I was brought up in the flooring industry and inherited my passion for carpets and flooring. My partner Emma Burton and I started our SA journey in 2015 by representing one of our Belgian rug brands - Papillion Rugs. We loved what the range had to offer, but the limited selection drove us to the launch our own Voke Collection this year.
What makes the range unique?
Each piece has been considered with care and made with love by the best hands in the industry to deliver a distinctive quality. We seek to engage people not only through the eyes but through the feeling the product story generates.
The concept behind your latest range?
We were devoted to discovering distinctive rugs of the world for anyone who values quality under foot.
Colour and material were core to our curation. We selected rugs specifically for the South African market, created from the finest yarns and fibres to guarantee quality at the source.
The beauty of this collection comes from the variety of textures, comfort, value, functionality and, of course, design. You will pick up on the modern African feel of bold patterns, rich textures and earthy tones.
Where is the collection produced and what materials are used?
All our rugs are made in India, using mainly wool, jute, cotton and polyester.
Who or what inspires you now?
I am inspired by Africa in general and our focus is to incorporate more African stories into our design work, but making it different by giving it our own twist.
What do you love most about your job?
I love being able to be creative. I can explore endlessly through trends, colours and patterns.
Do you collect anything? Why?
I like collecting blankets and throws. They add comfort, texture and warmth to any room.
What is the last décor object you bought?
Handmade pillow cases from Ithaca Fine Homeware. I love the textures and colours...
