In September last year deputy chief justice Raymond Zondo ruled in the Constitutional Court that it would not be a criminal offence for an adult to use or be in possession of cannabis in a private space.

The court then gave the national legislature 24 months to rectify constitutional defects in the Drugs and Drug Trafficking Act of 1992 and the Medicines and Related Substances Control Act of 1965 to bring legislation relating to cannabis in line with its ruling...
