Wednesday was a good day for South Africa on the sports front and many celebs joined the rest of the country in celebration.

The Netball Proteas and national women's soccer team Banyana Banyana made the country proud as they both secured crucial results in their bids to advance in their respective world cups.

On Wednesday morning Banyana beat Italy 3-2, while Wednesday night's game ended in a draw between the Proteas and New Zealand.

Media personality Somizi Mhlongo shared a short clip of Wednesday night's action, saying it was an exciting time to be a South African.

“What a time to be alive. What a time to be South African. What a time to witness our women's sport showing the world what Mbokodo means. Just look at these mzansi warriors displaying the resilience our queens have. Look at the score and look at how many seconds left. Congratulations to the Spar Proteas. Earlier on it was Banyana Banyana. It's a great day it's a good women's month,” Somizi wrote.

Wealthy businesswoman Shauwn “MaMkhize” Mkhize also headed to her socials to share her excitement at Banyana's historic win.

“Women in football are the future of South Africa, and their strength and determination continue to push boundaries. I couldn't be prouder of their hard work and resilience. Get ready, world, because we are about to make history,” she wrote.

Hildah Magaia was more than excited to have scored Banyana's winning goal.

“They call me ‘The Breadwinner’. Without me there’s no bread so I had to provide the bread for the nation,” Magaia quipped.

“It means a lot, especially knowing we were so close to going home. It is an emotional one.”
