As The Crown gears up to release the remaining episodes of its final season, fans will be pleased to know the star of the show is not only ruling England but social media as well.

The late Queen Elizabeth II was crowned the most talked-about royal, with more TikTok views, Google searches, Instagram hashtags, and articles written about her combined than any other royal, making her the most influential member of the royal family.

The research was conducted by GetInsta and analysed global Google searches, TikTok views, Instagram hashtags, and articles about numerous British royals to identify who was the most influential.

The late queen has been the subject of 7.9-million global Google searches a month, had 26.1-billion views under her hashtag, appeared in 1.7-million Instagram hashtags, and been written about in 916,869 articles in the previous year.

Taking second and third place respectively are Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. The couple's relationship and subsequent marriage have been the subject of substantial media coverage. Controversies such as their decision to step back from their roles as senior royals have generated headlines and increased public interest.

Prince Harry was the subject of a whopping 2-million global Google searches a month, had 14.1-billion TikTok tags, featured in 1.2-million Instagram hashtags, and appeared in 931,224 articles in the past year. The release of his tell-all book in January and the publicity for it led to a surge in articles discussing the book's contents, insights and implications — and also sparked intense debate. 

Promotional material for The Crown has generated a lot of buzz on social media platforms, leaving fans and followers of the series pondering Princess Diana's legacy. The late mother of William and Harry stands as the sixth most influential royal, with 1.7-million global Google searches a month and 17.8-billion TikTok views last year. She also featured in 978,000 Instagram hashtags and had 293,363 articles written about her last year.
