Really, Erwin Isaacs, really?

  • Not only did the Bidvest Wits forward fake injuries to avoid travelling to away games while he was at Santos, but this week he publicly admitted to it. And we thought Wits were supposed to be The Clever Boys.
  • THE Bafana Bafana players must have been really nervous ahead of their match against Kenya in Nairobi, and not because the opposition were intimidating. What was frightening were the huge vultures circling the Nyayo Stadium, which might have had the South Africans worried about an impending slaughter. Perhaps that was the motivation for Bafana to make sure Kenya were the easy pickings, not them.
  • IT WAS a scary trip all round for Bafana, who also had to change hotels in Nairobi because of a bomb scare. That's what you might call a little too close to explosive action for comfort for the national team.
  • THERE can be few finer gentlemen, or a more decent human being, to have graced South African football fields than Tommy Madigage. He was a legend of the game, a player of spectacular ability and one of the last great entertainers of local football. He was a successful assistant coach who won trophies and league titles for SuperSport United, and was starting to impart some of his encyclopedic knowledge of the game to the national team. A religious man, he said he was in no rush to become a head coach, but tragically time ran out far too early. He was killed in a car accident near Burgersfort, Limpopo, on Friday. Our thoughts are with his family and friends.
