Pretoria newsreader Carmen Reddy will add her mix of spice to the breakfast show on 5FM when she takes over from Vic Naidoo on Monday May 5.

Her task is to keep the 120000 morning listeners up to speed with the latest news.

She cannot wait to be in the hot seat.

"I'm super excited to work with DJ Fresh, who is the sweetest, coolest guy around," she said.

Reddy, 26, a sports anchor on eNCA, will continue to present her sports show while she freelances for 5FM.

She said she was looking forward to being back on radio.

"I started my career on radio at Tuks FM five years ago and radio has always been my first love.

"With radio I am able to voice my opinions. It's live, so it keeps me on my toes," she said.

Reddy graduated from the University of Pretoria with a degree in journalism and honours in media studies before she joined Talk Radio 702 and 94.7 Highveld Stereo as a news reader and reporter in 2010.

Three years later she started work at the SABC as a news writer and reader on SAfm and then she went to eNCA.

Reddy is inspired by the likes of US President Barack Obama, the late president Nelson Mandela and Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu. She hopes to make a difference in the world.

"Since January, I have supported the Heneka Haven in Pretoria. It's a home for abandoned children with special needs. I try to donate items they need whenever I can.

"I believe each one of us can do our bit to make the world a better place."
