Juggling with balls is taxing enough‚ but chainsaws and children?

That’s not a problem for a “lovable” Canadian chap nicknamed “Dynamike” who is one of 22 acts performing at the first-ever Cape Town Buskers’ Festival at the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town.

International and local buskers are giving free-to-enter shows featuring comedy‚ acrobatics‚ mimes‚ music and a host of colourful characters over the next three days.

Cape Town Buskers Festival CEO Tony Lankester described busking as the “original crowd-funding”.

“It’s also one of the oldest forms of theatre but‚ in South Africa‚ it’s not always accorded the same respect as other performance arts. We have brought out some international acts to add variety to the programme but our local street performers certainly dominate and will hold their own with the crowds.”

Dynamike is a talented juggler who showed off his skills on Thursday using children and a chainsaw – although not at the same time – as some of his props.

Some of the other artists include Diego‚ a Charlie Chaplin impersonator from Argentina; Dr Bucketman‚ a drummer from Spain with a fondness for Tupperware; South Africans Bravo – bristling with comedy‚ juggling and acrobatics - Ikamva Marimba and Nombasa.
