My Perfect Sunday

How fashion designer Hangwani Nengovhela spends her Sundays

Family, nature and church - these are the keys to the perfect weekend according to Hangwani Nengovhela, owner of Rubicon Clothing

08 April 2018 - 00:00 By Hangwani Nengovhela

We prefer to spend Sundays as a family. This is a tradition in our household. After waking up I usually engage my whole family in preparing breakfast before we head off to church. This is an integral part of how I keep myself grounded.
Sundays are perfect for just going outside for an early walk and for immersing myself in nature. Sometimes I take a long drive in the countryside with my family; these trips are more adventurous than anything else.
We don't have a particular place where we have lunch every Sunday. When we're in the countryside, for example, if we come across an unusual building, an interesting-looking restaurant, a beautiful landscape or picnic spot, then we'll sit and enjoy it.
Now and again I yearn for traditional Venda meals like delele (a green leafy plant), muroho wa-thanga wo kodeliwa (pumpkin leaves with powdered peanuts) and mutuku (sour pap).
When we come back from our explorations, we relax at home. I usually walk my dogs with my son at sunset. I spend the evening reading and preparing for the week. As a creative person, it is important to do things that inspire my creativity.
Before going to bed I'll catch up on some reading. I love to read fashion history and inspirational books.
