100% Design South Africa might be the new kid on the block but two years in and it’s already the premier design and decor show in Joburg.

The brainchild of local design aficionados Cathy O’Clery and Laurence Brick, the show is a cleverly curated mix of the top design talent in South Africa. From locally produced fabrics to the best international office furniture, it really is a creative treat.

Here are our favourite, not-to-be-missed highlights of this year’s show – which runs as part of Decorex, at Gallagher Estate until Monday August 10 2015.

1. 100% COLOUR

Talk about making great first impressions! This opening display was produced by the show’s curators in association with Plascon and is a brilliantly vivid reminder of the role colour plays in creating beautiful spaces. It's an irresistible mix of Ndebele-inspired patterns, electric blues and vibrant tangerines, with all kinds of fantastic furniture and homeware pieces on display.

2. DAVID KRYNAUW’S CRAZY CREATIONS

We guarantee that furniture maker David Krynauw’s work is like nothing else you will have seen before. Anywhere. His prolific body of furniture includes the loopiest wooden mirrors and the most exquisitely crafted single bed. It really is the most classic, beautiful kid’s bed we’ve seen in years. It’s no wonder that this talented designer took home the coveted title of ‘Designer of the Year Award’ at this year’s show.

3. GENERATION

We love a little bit of international inspiration and Generation's stand has this in spades. Themed around the idea of 100% Hotel, the space is a cool haven of perfectly designed couches, chic tables and clever accents from the likes of Italian brands De Padova and Seletti. We’re especially taken with Seletti’s new Machine Collection (pictured below) - a range of industrial product-inspired plates, bowls and glasses, created in collaboration with Diesel. Gigantic bolt-like ceramic vase anyone?

4. EGG DESIGN

Durban creatives Egg Design get our vote for sexiest stand (below). It oozes cool with its petrol blue padded walls, velvet chairs and metallic touches. Spend a moment in this seducitve spot and you’d be forgiven for thinking that you’re in some ultra cool Miami club. We’ve got a crush on the work Egg’s founders Greg and Roche Dry create in general but we’re really coveting the embroidered skull cushions they’ve recently developed and have on display at the show.

5. 100 BEAUTIFUL THINGS

If you need a reminder of the calibre of design work being created locally, then make a beeline for the 100 Beautiful Things stand. This artfully curated display celebrates 100 great designs made in South Africa in 2015 and was selected by 100% Design South Africa Programme Director Cathy O’Clery. It offers an inspiring array of ceramics and fabrics, everyday objects and furniture that you’ll certainly want for your own home.
