Mampara of the Week: Paul Edey

30 July 2017 - 00:02 By Hogarth

Lost in reconciliation
Keith Arlow, the racist geography teacher who quit St John's College under duress this week, could have easily made the Hogarth list on this own.
But the Mampara who defended Arlow's barbaric actions is more deserving of the accolade.
Paul Edey believes that telling a black child he is performing better in class because he is seated next to a white boy is "making racially stereotypical remarks" and not racism. So he took a "reconciliatory approach" and allowed Arlow to continue teaching. Thanks to Panyaza Lesufi, the hard-working MEC for education in Gauteng, Arlow was shown the door on Friday.
There is a place for people like Arlow and Edey — not in our schools...
