August 9 2018 will forever signify a day that changed fitness enthusiast Sbahle Mpisane's life.

She recently reflected on the day after watching a movie based on Don Piper's car crash titled 90 minutes in Heaven.

Sharing her thoughts on Threads, Sbahle said she resonated deeply with the 2015 film depicting Don's experience with death and life, from his shattered bones to the excruciating pain that comes with the recovery journey.

Movie I am currently watching 90 minutes in Heaven. A true story of Don's experience with death and life. Nearly all his bones were broken, sustained massive brain damage, experienced countless monthly surgeries, dealt with a serious period of depression and prayed to not awake any more. His wife, children, friends and so on didn't understand why he developed hatred for them and the world. But to speak from experience, no one understands how physically and mentally uncomfortable the survival and recovery phase is.”

Sbahle said she is filled with gratitude for what she survived, even though she had no idea how she left the accident alive.

“I shed tears last night for all my friends who didn't survive their car accidents. I prayed for individuals in need of support through their recovery journey and while weeping I thanked our Heavenly Father for saving, protecting and for giving me reach to joy once again. I don't know how I survived. I don't know how my bones strengthen again for me to manage to walk, gym, swim, skip and study today. None of it all would have been possible again but God answered my prayer list in his timing. From August 2018, there's a lot I learnt from my accident and my recovery experience. I'm at peace with what once bothered me.”

In an interview with YouTuber Owamie Hlongwane, she opened up about the events that led up to her accident that landed her in hospital

She spent several months in ICU after her car reportedly burst into flames after she lost control of the vehicle on Margaret Mncadi Avenue in Durban during the early hours.

Owamie asked her if alcohol consumption was involved at the time of the accident.

“The car accident wasn't because Sbahle was drinking and driving, no. There happened to be a situation. Unfortunately the cameras were not working and either way it was something which was seen and I have approached the situation face to face and something happened.

“Someone was the cause of my car accident but there were no cameras and I am alive. I happened to know the person. The person was my friend, but it's nothing to talk about because I don't want to mention their name and I am alive.”
