The struggle to turn what’s undeniably some potentially profitable IP — the vast, imaginative canvas of the 1980s megahit, role-playing game Dungeons and Dragons — into box office gold has been long and mostly unsuccessful. There was a 2000 adaptation starring Jeremy Irons that bombed hard and scared off producers from believing there was a way to make movie magic from a game that mostly involved earnestly geeky teens rolling dice and fighting dragons with magic powers on paper. ..
