We know Christmas is almost upon us when supermarket shelves groan with fruit mince pies and other festive goodies. A definition of a good mince pie is one that contains a generous dark, heady mix of spicy, juicy fruit mince — think plump raisins with a hint of brandy, a fragrant blend of festive spices such as cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves, all encrusted in melt-in-the-mouth, buttery shortcrust pastry, and finished off with light sprinkling of caster sugar...
