A male lion learnt the hard way why it's a costly mistake to interfere in a lady's hunt.

Peter Craig-Cooper, who filmed this on the banks of the Crocodile River in the Kruger National Park, told LatestSightings they were watching the lions on the riverbank when a herd of impala came into view.

"As the impala finally crept close enough for an ambush, a female lion started stalking them. Her head can be seen in the grass at the start of the video.

"The male then decided to help out in the catch - rookie mistake! All of a sudden pandemonium broke out. The male chasing from the top and the female from the bottom of the bank. The two lions collided as the impala made its escape," he said.

The impala escape to freedom, leaving the lions bewildered by the botched attempt.
