ANC probes anti-Makhosi Khoza MPs for fraud

MP's 'fake signature' in letter to remove Khoza may be fraud

The ANC is investigating fraud allegations against several of its MPs who rebelled against Makhosi Khoza after it emerged a signature of one of the MPs may have been forged.
ANC MP Regina Lesoma has informed party chief whip Jackson Mthembu that she never signed a letter sent to Mthembu's office in which five ANC MPs called for action against Khoza over her stance on the motion of no confidence in President Jacob Zuma.
Lesoma's signature appeared in the letter under a purported proxy even though she did not attend the Tuesday morning meeting of the ANC study group on public service and administration.
She said she had not given a proxy to any of her ANC colleagues. The letter led to the removal of Khoza as chairwoman of the public service and administration committee on Thursday after she reacted angrily to it by insulting Lesoma and the other MPs such as Mervyn Dirks, Sizani Dlamini-Dubazana, Madala Ntombela and Wilma Newhoudt-Druchen.
All party MPs, including Public Service and Administration Minister Faith Muthambi, who were present at the study group meeting, have now been summoned by Mthembu to appear before the strategy committee of the ANC in parliament on Tuesday morning to explain how Lesoma's name ended up on their letter.
Lesoma said on Friday that she was not in parliament last Tuesday.
"I was not there. I was in Durban. But please speak to the chief whip about this matter," she said.
Mthembu said the use of Lesoma's name without her consent amounted to fraud and he wanted answers from all those who were present at the study group meeting.
"It's very irregular, it amounts to fraud ... we are calling the entire study group on Tuesday to raise those issues.
"We want to know who did this. It's fraudulent. It's bad. Whoever did this must then suffer the consequences.
"That's why we'll be speaking to those comrades on Tuesday. We will give them a fair chance to say their say ... it's the strategy [committee] of the ANC that will say: 'Comrades, can you just level with us why you did this?'..
