Fatigue is real, particularly when it comes to the news - negative news specifically.

It happened during SA’s HIV/Aids epidemic, when many people just didn’t want to hear about it or read about it anymore. It’s happening right now during the Covid-19 pandemic. Every single case and death was met with intrigue and fascination early on, and now many people hardly notice even the big milestones (such as SA hitting 700,000 confirmed infections on Saturday). This has meant many seem to be simply fatigued and no longer following the rules - including sanitising, mask wearing and physical distancing - as they really should...
