American contender for Middleweight title, Jake La Motta, in training to meet Marcel Cerdan, the French middleweight champion at Detroit. La Motta, also known as The Raging Bull, was born on July 10, 1922 in The Bornx, New York. He died aged 95 from complications of pneumonia in a nursing home in Florida on September 19, 2017.

Lewis, born Joseph Levitch, was born on March 16, 1926 in New Jersey. He died at age 91 from Cardiovascular disease on August 20, 2017, in Las Vegas.
