Miss Rwanda 2016 Jolly Mutesi is the latest woman to reveal how “Facebook rapist” and murderer Thabo Bester and his lover Dr Nandipha Magudumana allegedly tried to lure her to Cape Town with a fake $3m (R54m) presenting gig.

Mutesi, in a social media post, alleged she was approached by the pair through Arum Holdings, a company that listed Magudumana as CEO and Bester, under the alias of TK Nkwana, as chairman.

She said Bester and Magudumana offered her the fake TV presenting gig to mingle with the likes of rapper Drake and reality star Kylie Jenner.

“The few who know me well know I am an introvert but big at networking because I believe your network is your net worth. So last year, I received an invitation to go to South Africa as a possible candidate to host a Netflix show with Kylie and Drake.

“I asked 'why me?' and I was told they needed an East African face of a certain physical stature and fluent that could blend well with the American duo, fit the luxurious show and give it life. And from their online observation of me 'I was a great contender',” she said.

Mutesi said she was excited about the opportunity and the three-year contract where she would be paid $3m to $4m a year.

“As a hustler, I was super excited. My mind told me, 'You’ve got a huge platform to launch yourself to the world and unleash your potential'. I was prepared to hold my head high and milk the cow dry. Please note the payment was $3m to $4m/year for a 3-year contract, renewable.

“As a hustler who believes in the holy Bible, I started reciting Matthew 7:7. For me the lord had already given. I was told we would use the Netflix platform to feature Visit Rwanda [and] shoot some of our shows in Rwanda's luxurious hotels.”

After her initial excitement she realised the offer “was too good to be true”.

“My instincts told me to look through it with a fine tooth comb. I requested the company profile, official invitation and hotel booking and presented it to the authorities to seek advice and help to know how legit it was. The due diligence was done and I was advised not to go because every finding about the company and owners was screaming scam.”

She thanked the Rwandan embassy in South Africa for saving her life and cautioned young people to do their research on opportunities presented to them.

“Moral of the story. Dear young ones, especially those in the limelight, as you are out there fending for yourself, please be vigilant about whoever presents [an] opportunity to you, not all that glitters is gold. There are crooks out there without compassion. Always seek advice,” said Mutesi.
